The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Wednesday, toured the Olubadan Palace at Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, as part of preparations for his relocation to the royal residence.
The visit, which marked his first official assignment since ascending the throne last Friday at a historic coronation ceremony held at Mapo Hall, was preceded by a closed-door meeting with members of the Olubadan-in-Council.
The monarch was later conducted round the palace by senior aides as he inspected various departments and residential quarters.
A palace aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Oba Ladoja expressed satisfaction with the state of the facility, noting that only minor adjustments would be needed before his permanent relocation.
“Kabiyesi was impressed with the general condition of the palace. He made some observations for improvement, but overall, he is satisfied with the readiness of the facility,” the aide said.
Oba Ladoja is expected to formally move into the palace after the conclusion of the week-long coronation festivities.
He will become the second Olubadan to reside in the official palace, following his predecessor, the late Oba Lekan Balogun, who broke tradition by relocating from a private residence.
As part of the ongoing celebrations, a special Jumat service will hold on Friday at the Oja’ba Central Mosque, where prayers will be offered for the monarch and for peace and prosperity in Ibadanland.
The final leg of the traditional rites, the Isese ceremony, is scheduled for Saturday to formally bring the coronation week to a close.
Oba Ladoja’s emergence has been greeted with excitement and optimism across Ibadanland, with many residents and cultural observers describing his ascension as a symbol of unity and continuity in the city’s revered traditional system.
