Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has reacted to viral reports claiming he was arrested in London over a domestic dispute with his wife, Natasha Osawaru.
He described the story as false and clarified that his show was cancelled because of a medical emergency.
The rumour started on Thursday, October 2, after claims surfaced online (The Guardian not included) that the singer had clashed with Natasha shortly after arriving in the United Kingdom for a planned concert.
Social media users quickly circulated the story, alleging that he was detained on domestic violence grounds.
According to the reports, his absence from his UK tour was linked to the supposed arrest. The claims generated a wave of reactions from fans who expressed concern over the singer’s silence.
In a video posted on Instagram on Friday, 2Baba appeared alongside Natasha and a few friends, laughing off the story.
One of his associates joked, “Oh boy, dem don alleged you. Allegedly, dem say you way dey here, allegedly, dem don alleged you.”
The ‘African Queen’ crooner then addressed the rumours, making it clear that he was not arrested. He explained that the London show was cancelled due to a sudden health situation.
He said, “First of all, I want to say everyone that came out, I appreciate you. We had a medical emergency, it was tough. To the organizers and everyone that came out, we go regroup and make something beautiful happen. And please, if una no sabi something, make una no talk abeg. This allegedly, I don tire.”
2Baba, 50, has remained one of the most influential voices in Nigerian music for more than two decades. Earlier this year, he and Natasha held their traditional wedding on July 25, months after his separation from actress Annie Idibia.
Checks by our correspondent revealed that as at the time filling this report, there is no police report or credible evidence to support the arrest claim.
His clarification has eased the worries of fans who had been concerned about the cancelled London show.
