Court dismisses suit against Senate, Akpabio over Senator Natasha

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the legality of the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.

Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the ruling on Friday, held that the 10 plaintiffs who filed the case lacked the locus standi (legal authority) to institute the action.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/654/2025, was filed by Ovavu Illiyasu and nine others against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate.

The plaintiffs sought to invalidate the suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan, arguing that it would deprive their senatorial district of representation in the upper chamber.

They prayed the court to void the suspension and order her immediate reinstatement.

In his judgment, however, Justice Omotosho ruled that the plaintiffs had no legal standing to challenge the Senate’s decision and consequently dismissed the case for lack of merit.
