Owa Obokun replaces Osun monarch accused of stealing transformers

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has replaced the suspended Oba Odo of Ilesa, Busuyi Gbadamosi, who was accused of stealing two transformers in Ilesa.

The paramount ruler of Ijesaland installed Samuel Oni, a professor, as the new Oba Odo of Ilesa days after Gbadamosi was arrested by the police over alleged theft.

According to a post on Friday by Isaac Haastrup, a media aide to Oba Haastrup, the kingdom could not continue to leave the vital chieftaincy position vacant.

Speaking in a video seen by our correspondent, Oba Haastrup explained that the position of Oba Odo needed a virtuous and integrity-personified individual who would work with him to sanitise Ijesaland.

He described Professor Oni as an academic who is responsible and well behaved, hence his installation as the new Oba Odo of Ilesa.

The traditional ruler directed his chiefs to ensure necessary rituals are carried out for the new Oba Odo.

Haastrup had stripped Gbadamosi of his title over the alleged disappearance of two transformers.

It was gathered that the transformers procured to serve some residents of Ilesa communities were allegedly carted away by the sacked chief.

Oba Haastrup had asked Gbadamosi to retrieve the transformers within a week, but he failed.

The paramount ruler of Ijesaland, therefore, suspended him as the Oba Odo of Ilesa over Gbadamosi’s failure to provide the two missing transformers he allegedly sold.

Chief Gbadamosi was suspended after he was arrested by the police in Ilesa and allegedly refused to write a statement at the police station.

Residents of the Araromi community, Ilesa, had reported the high chief to Owa’s Panel on Conduct, Chieftaincy Matters and Boundary Disputes, alleging that he stole the transformers.

However, Chief Gbadamosi denied the allegation, noting that he was only trying to assist in helping the community fix the transformers.
