The Delta State Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs and arrested four suspects in two separate operations in Asaba between October 2 and 3, 2025.
Command spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe said the first operation was conducted on October 2 by operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, in collaboration with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking.
During the operation, police intercepted a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG, driven by 52-year-old Dennis Uruma from Igalamela Local Council, Kogi State. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered several bags and parcels of substances suspected to be narcotics. The driver was arrested on the spot while officers began counting and measuring the seized exhibits.
In a follow-up operation on October 3, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by CSP Nosa Alex, raided a suspected criminal hideout near the Basket Market area of Asaba, acting on credible intelligence. The operation, which lasted several hours, led to the arrest of three suspects: Rabbi Godwin, 25, Lucky Nanakumo, 20, and David Igwe, 19.
Police also recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol during a search of the premises. The suspects are currently in RRS custody as investigations continue to trace other members of the gang and recover more weapons.
Edafe reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime, cultism, armed robbery and drug trafficking, and urged residents to stay alert and support security agencies with credible information.
“The Delta State Police Command will continue to partner with relevant agencies and community leaders to dismantle criminal networks, recover arms, and disrupt drug supply chains,” he said.
