Group warns against planned protests in Abuja, Zamfara

  •  Urges Gov Lawal to support anti-terror efforts

A Northern socio-political group, the Northern Socio-Political Rights Network (NSPRN), has raised alarm over an alleged plan to stage protests across Abuja and Zamfara State on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, describing it as a politically motivated attempt to undermine the Federal Government’s efforts in the war against terrorism.

In a statement on Monday signed by its President, Mohammed Farouk Lawal, the group claimed that the protests were allegedly being sponsored by some disgruntled government officials “in a bid to discredit the gains recorded by the Federal Government and malign the reputation of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle.”

While acknowledging the security challenges facing Zamfara, the group condemned what it described as “a needless attempt to play politics with the situation,” warning that such actions could worsen tensions in the state.

The statement read: “We frown at this wicked political plot and the attempt to curry sympathy and popularity with the pains of the people.”

The NSPR Network called on Governor Dauda Lawal to act as “a partner in progress” with the Federal Government and military authorities, rather than “live up to the perceived reputation of a disruptive element” in national security efforts.

It added: “We hope the organisers of the said protests will jettison the idea, which can dampen the morale of the nation’s security forces on the frontlines.”

The group urged stakeholders to prioritise peace and collaboration, expressing hope that “the sanctity of life and patriotism will prevail in Zamfara State tomorrow and beyond.”
