The death toll from the shooting incident allegedly involving operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, has risen to seven.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has vowed that those responsible for the killings would be arrested and prosecuted.
Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, made this known on Monday during a visit by a government delegation to the community.
He condemned the attack and assured residents that the state government would conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke condemns in strong terms the killing in Akinlalu. The government will ensure a thorough investigation, and those responsible will face the full wrath of the law,” Alimi said.
He appealed for calm among residents, promising that the administration would not tolerate any form of criminality or cover-up.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, confirmed that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo.
“The police have swung into action since the incident occurred. Three suspects are currently in custody, and others will soon be apprehended,” Gotan stated.
The state Attorney General, Jimi Bada, commiserated with the bereaved families and assured them that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
“The state government will ensure that all those found guilty face the consequences as prescribed by law,” Bada said.
Also, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo, urged residents to maintain peace, assuring them that the government would ensure accountability.
The traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Oloyede Aborisade, described the killings as a great loss to the community and appealed to the government to ensure justice and compensate the victims’ families.
Similarly, the Akinlalu Youth Leader, Adeboye Musbau, called for swift action, saying: “We cannot afford to suffer in vain. We appeal to the government to investigate thoroughly and compensate affected families.”
The Osun Amotekun Corps, in a statement on September 30, 2025, claimed that three suspected hoodlums were killed during a violent clash with its operatives on the outskirts of Akinlalu.
The agency said its personnel were attacked while attempting to recover weapons allegedly seized by the hoodlums.
However, the Osun State Police Command, in a counter statement issued on October 1 by its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said all claims and counterclaims—including allegations of murder, assault, gun snatching, and impersonation—would be thoroughly investigated to establish the facts.
Ojelabi added that the police had taken over the case, stressing that no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the truth.
He alleged that the Amotekun personnel fled the scene with the corpses of their victims but would be apprehended and brought to justice.
