Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that the National Library of Nigeria, when fully completed, will become a modern, digitized knowledge hub and a repository of the nation’s rich history.
She stated this during a facility tour of the Qatar National Library in Doha, where she said Nigeria intends to draw inspiration from the Qatari model to develop its own world-class national library.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage must be properly documented and preserved for future generations, adding that young Nigerians need reliable reference points to learn about their history and identity.
She also commended the library’s motto, “Free Access to Knowledge,” describing it as a guiding principle that Nigeria should emulate in its pursuit of educational and cultural advancement.
The Qatar National Library, located in Education City, Doha, houses more than two million books and 500,000 e-books, serving as both a monument of national pride and a center of learning for the region.
The visit was the First Lady’s first official engagement in Doha and preceded her upcoming meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.
According to her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs. Tinubu will use the meeting to seek partnerships aimed at tackling the challenges of out-of-school children and reforming the Almajiri education system in Nigeria.
