The League of African Ambassadors has praised the Dangote Group for constructing the world’s largest single-train refinery in Nigeria, a landmark achievement for Africa’s industrial progress.
Launched on October 14, 2024, in Lusaka, Zambia, the League marks a bold new chapter in Africa’s diplomatic and economic strategy, uniting ambassadors and diplomats from across the continent behind a shared vision for Africa’s future.
In his presidential address, Ambassador Nwanne Ominyi lauded the Dangote Group’s success as a significant milestone for Africa’s industrialisation and energy self-sufficiency.
“Africa must provide ‘Made in Africa’ goods with the necessary protection and patronage to win the commodity war in the global market,” Ambassador Ominyi said.
He described the refinery as a turning point in Africa’s quest for industrial growth and energy independence and called for collective support to sustain its expansion.
Quoting author Dele Farotimi, Ominyi urged Africans to stop blaming the West and instead take ownership of their future through determination and self-reliance.
The League also commended the Nigerian government for creating the enabling environment that made the refinery project possible.
African nations already sourcing petroleum from the refinery were applauded as pioneers of intra-African trade and economic integration.
The League emphasised the urgent need for Africa to stop exporting raw resources and start adding value within the continent.
“The Dangote refinery project is a significant step towards achieving Africa’s energy self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products,” the League stated.
It warned that underdevelopment will persist unless Africa protects and prioritises “Made in Africa” goods.
The launch event featured high-level discussions, cultural showcases, and strong commitments to continental unity and cooperation.
The League aims to serve as Africa’s central hub for diplomatic coordination and strategic engagement on the global stage.
Its mission is to project a strong, united African voice in international policy and economic forums.
Recognition of the Dangote Group signals the League’s firm support for African-led industrial breakthroughs.
The refinery serves as proof that Africans can successfully design, build, and operate large-scale projects with a global impact.
The League called on African leaders to prioritise industrialisation as a key driver of development.
It pledged to attract local and international investors committed to fueling Africa’s economic transformation.

In a clear message, Ambassador Ominyi declared: “Africa is not waiting to be saved—Africa is ready to lead.”
