Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) made this call at a workshop on post-elections organised in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the European Union (E.U) in Lagos.

Speaking at the workshop, the Country Director, IFES, Uloma Osuala, said, “it is important to work together with the victorious government and to ensure that the society moves forward.

“When a government comes into power, it is no longer the government of those who voted them in, it becomes the government of the whole community and so we must live above sentiments and party politics to have a better nation.

“When there is violence, it takes a lot to bring the community back as a result of the negative effects of violence; so, we should always preach peace with our words and action to reduce the chances of violence,” she added.

Guest speaker, Barr. Jiti Ogunye, called on stakeholders to shun retribution, which springs up violence.

“We must accommodate one another, work together, shun religious bigotry and form solidarity groups to speak with one voice.”
