Sometimes, destiny reveals itself in the most unexpected moments — and for Kachi Yvonne Tim, that moment came on a film set in 2015.
At the time, Kachi was working as a fashion stylist, brought on to handle wardrobe for the cast of a local film production. Cooking was something she loved privately — an art she practised at home, often blending the bold flavours of her Nigerian roots with the island-inspired tastes from her Kittitian heritage. But food wasn’t yet part of her professional identity.
That changed when, during the movie styling assignment, Kachi was unexpectedly asked to cater for the actors and crew. The request was spontaneous — a simple solution to a catering hiccup on set — but it became a defining moment. Her meals, made with care and creativity, quickly became the talk of the production. The positive feedback from the team not only boosted her confidence but also sparked a newfound passion for the culinary arts and hospitality.
Inspired by that experience, Kachi began exploring how food could be more than a hobby — it could be a platform for connection, culture, and entrepreneurship. Two years later, in 2017, she officially launched Kachi’s Kitchen, starting as an online catering service that operated from a modest office space. With limited equipment but unlimited drive, she prepared takeout meals, handled event catering, and served corporate clients who soon became loyal customers.
From those humble beginnings, Kachi’s Kitchen has evolved into one of Lagos’s promising culinary brands, known for its blend of West African and Caribbean influences and its commitment to quality, creativity, and warmth. What began as an unplanned opportunity on a movie set has grown into a flourishing business that reflects Kachi’s deep love for food, community, and culture.
For Kachi, that day in 2015 was more than a chance encounter — it was a reminder that purpose often finds you when you least expect it.
