Veteran filmmaker and respected Nollywood patron, Andy Boyo, has donated N20 million to the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN) to support the quarterly remuneration of its newly elected executives.
The donation, which will cover structured allowances of N5.05 million per quarter from the third quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026, follows Boyo’s earlier contribution in July 2025, when he donated a double-cabin truck and N30 million to the guild to enhance its operations.
According to a statement at the weekend, the gesture marks the first time in Nollywood’s history that guild executives would receive formal remuneration for their service.
The statement noted that Boyo, a seasoned movie producer and director, donated a production truck equipped with film gear valued at over N45 million to the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), where he also serves as a patron.
It said: “Andy Boyo has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry, and his history of supporting Nollywood projects and professionals is well-documented and cannot be overemphasised.
“His support over the years has enabled the development of new talents, the production of high-quality content, and increased visibility for Nigerian films worldwide.
“It will be recalled that Andy Boyo’s personal filming career has recorded many award-winning blockbuster movies, among which is his historic first-ever one-cast-only movie in Africa, which recorded a successful premiere in major cinemas across the globe.”
According to a DGN source, the donation was inspired by the commitment to excellence that was expressed by the newly elected DGN exco.
“Hence, he decided to boost their morale through quarterly remuneration to avoid petty distractions. He was also quoted to have admonished the executives to ensure a consistent track record of transparency and accountability to encourage his continued support,” the statement added.
