Insurer awards N9.5m in prizes at essay championship

Heirs Insurance Group has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing financial literacy and empowering the next generation of financially savvy Nigerians, as evidenced by the successful conclusion of the 2025 essay championship.

Now in its fourth edition, the competition attracted over 5,000 entries from junior secondary school students, all exploring the theme: “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure.” The event, held in Abuja, celebrated knowledge, creativity, and the growing impact of insurance education in shaping young minds.

After a rigorous evaluation process independently verified by Deloitte and Touche, 13-year-old Rhema-Love Abraham of Precepts Learning Field, Lagos, emerged as the overall winner, earning a N5 million scholarship and a N1 million grant for her school. Bernice Michael of S-TEE High School, Lagos, won the second prize with a N2 million scholarship. At the same time, Afopefoluwa Tofio-Jacobs of D-IVY College, Ogun State, took third place, receiving N1 million.

In line with its mission to democratise insurance awareness, Heirs Insurance also introduced the inaugural Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize, recognising educators who champion insurance and financial literacy.

Okpe Chidi of Urban Secondary School, Umuna, Orlu, Imo State, emerged the first-ever winner, receiving a personal cash reward of N1 million and a N500,000 grant for his school.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sector Head, Heirs Insurance Group, Niyi Onifade, commended the creativity and commitment of the participants, describing them as the true reflection of Nigeria’s promising future.

“We are proud of every student and teacher who participated in this year’s essay championship. Their curiosity and dedication reflect the kind of future we envision; one built on knowledge, innovation, and resilience.”
