Foundation unveils new site for Olokun festival

The Festival Foundation (OFF) has disclosed that this year’s festival celebration will be held at the newly established site named Kakanfo Falola Beach in Badagry.

Chief Promoter of the OFF, Iba Gani Adams, stated this, yesterday, at a media briefing to herald the cultural fiesta.

He said that the establishment of the new beach and festival site marked a major step in transforming the yearly Olokun celebration into a global tourism event.

Adams, who was represented by the Director of Communications for OFF, Yinka Oguntimehin, noted that the decision was made following the upgrade of the Olokun Festival to the Olokun World Festival.

According to him, the Kakanfo Falola Beach will have recreation facilities, a hotel, mini cinema, conference hall, gym centres, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a mini festival stadium, and courts for other sports, such as lawn tennis and table tennis, and a pitch where beach soccer can be played. This new beach site will have all facilities that will qualify it as a world-class tourism destination.”

He stressed that the Beach was designed to attract visitors beyond Nigeria, targeting tourists from across West Africa—including Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Gambia, Togo, Ghana, as well as from Brazil, the Caribbean countries and other parts of the continents.

“Our goal is to make Kakanfo Falola Beach like Pattaya Beach in Thailand,” he said.

He noted that the mini stadium within the Beach complex would serve multiple purposes beyond the Olokun World Festival, offering space for use by religious groups, corporate organisations and other events.

He further noted that this year’s festival, which began today with a media briefing, would end on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the newly acquired Beach, adding that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, including over 50,000 guests, are expected at the grand finale.

“The final event will showcase the spiritual affinity of Arugba Aje-Olokun as the symbol of the grand finale. The Arugba Aje-Olokun will be praying for all the participants at the finale,” he said.
