Delta’s N1.5tr 2026 budget to prioritise infrastructure, social welfare

• Oborevwori to partner NDDC, Chevron on strategic road projects

Delta State has announced that its proposed N1.5 trillion 2026 budget will focus on capital projects and social welfare, as part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s strategy to consolidate on his administration’s MORE Agenda.

Oborevwori also reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) on the ambitious Omadino/Okerenkoko/Escravos Road and Bridges project, describing it as a transformative infrastructure initiative that will open up the coastal communities of the state.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this, yesterday, during a briefing in Asaba, where he explained that all ministries were finalising their submissions in line with the approved Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

“Following the approval of the MTEF, ministries are fine-tuning their submissions before presentation to the State Executive Council (SEC),” Aniagwu stated, adding that Governor Oborevwori had directed that all empowerment programmes commencing next month must be transparent, inclusive and evenly spread across the 25 local councils.

According to him, the government intends to launch several new multi-billion-naira projects in the coming weeks, including the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, as part of efforts to sustain the momentum of ongoing infrastructure renewal across the state.

Aniagwu assured that the Oborevwori administration would not allow political timelines or pre-election distractions to slow the pace of governance, emphasising that contractors had been ordered to maintain steady progress on all active projects.

Relatedly, Aniagwu revealed that Oborevwori would, today, depart for Germany on an official working visit to strengthen the state’s technical partnership with leading construction giant, Julius Berger.

He disclosed that the governor would be accompanied by the Technical Assistant to the Governor on Infrastructure and himself, noting that the trip was strictly a working mission designed to secure better project terms and deepen collaboration on key construction initiatives.

Speaking during the inauguration of NDDC State Office in Warri, Governor Oborevwori disclosed that a tripartite meeting between the state government, NDDC and Chevron would be convened very soon to chart a clear roadmap for the commencement of the project.   He assured that his government was fully committed to seeing the project through.

On the Omadino/Okerenkoko/Escravos road project, Oborevwori said: “Delta is ready to partner the NDDC and Chevron to deliver it. The state is not afraid to take on big projects. We are ready. I was born and raised here. I know what is needed. And I say again, we are ready to take on any project.”

He said the proposed tripartite partnership would not only fast-track the project’s delivery but also strengthen collaboration for sustainable regional development.

The governor added that his administration would sustain its open-door policy towards meaningful partnerships that translate to tangible progress for Deltans.

Oborevwori’s renewed call for partnership signals a major push to deliver on his administration’s MORE Agenda with the Omadino/Okerenkoko/Escravos project poised to become one of the legacies of his tenure.
