• We’re already acting on intelligence, say police
• PDP accuses Aiyedatiwa of trivialising terror threat, demands security summit
Ondo State Government has called for calm among residents of the state over the leaked security alert issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) on planned coordinated attacks on some communities in the state by a terrorist group, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, while describing the leaked memo as routine intelligence regularly shared among security agencies and the government in the state, said that it is always used to assess security threats and take proactive measures.
Ajanaku gave the assurance that the intelligence report is already being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies, with necessary precautions being taken to ensure the safety and security of the people.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed the development, said that the command had deployed necessary operational and intelligence assets to swiftly tackle the situation.
RELATEDLY, the Kogi State Government has called on residents of the state to remain calm and vigilant following reports of a planned terrorist attack in parts of Kogi and Ondo states.
In a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the state government described the intelligence report as a step towards victory, noting that it demonstrates the proactive work of the DSS and other security agencies in protecting Nigerians from criminal elements.
The commissioner assured citizens that the Kogi State Government is working closely with the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Police, and other relevant security formations to ensure that any terrorist attempt is completely foiled before it could threaten lives or property.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, yesterday, stressed that the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led administration is lacking seriousness in tackling security issues in the state, particularly amid the leaked security alert on the possibility of attacks in some communities in the state.
According to the opposition party, security agencies have been demoralised due to what it described as the government’s attitude to the issue of security.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Wande T. Ajayi, the party said the governor should endeavour to convene an urgent security summit, mobilise resources, and rebuild confidence among the security agencies, emphasising that the state needs decisive leadership.
