The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Division, Lagos, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye.

Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday, served in the Nigeria Police Force for 15 years.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, Argungu described the late officer as a dedicated, disciplined, and hardworking professional who gave her best to the service of the nation.

He noted that the numerous tributes pouring in from colleagues reflected Ngbaronye’s reputation as one of the most committed officers in the Lagos State Police Command.
“The Commission condoles with the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, her aged mother, and other family members,” Argungu said.

He prayed for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant her eternal rest, adding that the Commission remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of police officers nationwide.

Ngbaronye joined the Nigeria Police Force on April 19, 2010, and rose steadily through the ranks to become a Chief Superintendent of Police.

She served in several capacities, including as Crime Officer at Dolphin Estate Division, Ikoyi; General Investigation and Fingerprint Expert at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti; and Head of the Public Complaints Bureau.

Ngbaronye also distinguished herself on an international assignment as Public Information Officer with the African Union Mission in Somalia, where she earned commendations for her outstanding performance.

In December 2020, she was appointed Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command by then Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

She was promoted to Superintendent of Police in February 2021 and later to Chief Superintendent in December 2024.

Before her posting to Festac Division, Ngbaronye served as the Divisional Police Officer at Iponri Division in Lagos.
