NSE, DHQ unveil think-tank to deepen standard

Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has inaugurated a new standards and evaluation expert working group in partnership with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to strengthen military infrastructure projects.

The group would ensure that infrastructure projects adhere to the highest engineering standards.

Speaking at the group’s inauguration, NSE President, Margaret Oguntala, stressed the importance of the panel as a technical think-tank that would collaborate with the armed forces on national infrastructural projects.

She explained that the collaboration would ensure the military’s engineering standards are maintained at the highest level, reinforcing the growing partnership between the two institutions.
The partnership was first discussed in December 2024, when the Chief of Defence Standards and Evaluation, Major-General Adekunle Ariyibi, visited the NSE headquarters.

Oguntala had assured the DHQ of NSE’s commitment to collaborating on military infrastructure projects, a move that has since evolved into the formation of the Expert Working Group.

With the inauguration, the group embarked on its first inspection tour of key military facilities that include the Armed Forces Hospital, Defence Headquarters Annex, Multipurpose Armed Forces Event Centre, Senior Officers Transit Quarters and others.

The trip allowed the group to evaluate ongoing infrastructural projects and familiarise themselves with the scope of their responsibilities, marking the beginning of their direct involvement in military engineering projects across the federation.

Led by a senior engineer, Isa Usman Emoabino, the team was selected for their professional pedigree and proven excellence, and was tasked with supporting DHQ in the development, evaluation, and execution of critical military infrastructure.

Oguntala expressed confidence in their ability to uphold the high standards expected of them and urged them to approach their duties with professionalism and dedication, ensuring their contributions drive national development.

The inauguration of the NSE-Defence Headquarters standards and evaluation expert working group represents a monumental step towards enhancing the engineering profession in Nigeria, and ensuring that military infrastructure development aligns with the highest engineering standards.
