The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Adedayo Ladega, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare for senior citizens with the distribution of Itoju Agba Health Insurance Cards to elderly residents.
The event, held at the O’Clean Event Centre within the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, marked the second day of the council’s 100 Days in Office programme.
The first day featured sanitation and environmental advocacy activities, reflecting the administration’s focus on comprehensive community development.
The Itoju Agba Health Insurance Programme, implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) under the Ilera Eko scheme, was launched last month with the registration and form distribution phase.
The latest exercise saw beneficiaries receive personalised health insurance cards with policy numbers, officially enrolling them in a state-backed healthcare plan that guarantees medical access, treatment, and preventive care.
The event also featured on-site medical checkups conducted by LASHMA officials, providing senior citizens with basic health assessments and professional guidance as part of the council’s commitment to proactive healthcare.
In his address, Ladega described the initiative as a core component of the Enhanced Health Care pillar of his SEED Agenda, Security, Education, Enhanced Health Care, and Development.
He noted that the programme strengthens local healthcare delivery and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises inclusive governance, human capital development, and welfare for vulnerable groups.
“Our elders have contributed immensely to the growth of our communities. Providing them with reliable healthcare is not just a duty — it is a moral responsibility,” the Chairman said.
“Through this partnership with LASHMA, our senior citizens now have health coverage that guarantees treatment, preventive care, and peace of mind. This initiative also reflects our broader commitment to holistic empowerment, ensuring our residents feel valued and supported.”
Ladega added that the programme complements the Health and Environment pillar of Lagos State’s THEMES+ agenda, showing how grassroots initiatives contribute to state and national priorities, particularly in ensuring quality healthcare for the elderly.
The event attracted residents and guests who commended the Chairman for prioritising healthcare access and welfare for senior citizens. Participants also benefited from support initiatives designed to enhance their well-being, further strengthening community ties.
Beneficiaries described the Itoju Agba programme as timely and life-changing, noting that access to medical coverage significantly reduces the financial burden of healthcare on senior citizens.
