FUOYE SUG warns NYCN against planned protest on campus

Says institution not ground for non-academic activities

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has warned the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) against plans to stage any form of protest or gathering within the university premises, describing such moves as unauthorised and unacceptable.

In a statement titled “Letter of Resistance and Warning Against NYCN Protest Within FUOYE” and signed by the SUG President, Adio James; General Secretary, Alao Ayorinde; and Public Relations Officer, Abiola David, the union said it would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the peace and stability currently being enjoyed in the university community.

The SUG stated that FUOYE remains an academic environment devoted to learning, research, and development, and not a venue for political mobilisation or external agitation.

It emphasised that no external body or association is permitted to hold protests or gatherings within the campus without explicit approval from the Students’ Union Government.

“The attention of the FUOYE SUG has been drawn to the proposed protest being incubated by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) within or around our university premises.

“The Federal University Oye-Ekiti is an academic environment dedicated to learning, research, and development, not a ground for political mobilisation or external agitation. Therefore, no external body or association is permitted to conduct protests or gatherings within the institution without the explicit approval of the Students’ Union Government,” the statement stated.

The union, while describing the planned action as unauthorised, unnecessary, and capable of disrupting the peace, order, and stability currently being enjoyed within our campus community, warned that any disregard for its directive would be treated as a deliberate act of provocation and trespass.

It added that the SUG, in collaboration with the university management and security agencies, would take all necessary disciplinary and legal measures to protect the sanctity of the institution.

The union, therefore, urged the NYCN to suspend all plans for mobilisation within or around the university, advising the youth body to seek engagement through peaceful and lawful means rather than confrontation.
