Ogun to commission newly renovated 250-bed hospital in December

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced that the state’s 250-bed Medical Centre of Excellence in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, will be commissioned in December 2025.

Abiodun disclosed this yesterday during an inspection tour of the facility, which was built but left incomplete by the previous administration.

He said the Centre, once operational, would be managed by the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, which has King’s College Hospital in the United Kingdom as one of its international partners. The Ogun facility, he added, would serve as a “spoke” to the Abuja hub.

“We are looking forward to the completion of this project. You can see the exterior is looking very nice; landscaping has started, the entrance canopy and gate are in place, and oxygen equipment is working. I have told them to double up on manpower so that we commence operations in the next two to three weeks,” the governor said.

“My intention is to come, by the grace of God, to commission this project in December. This will be one of our Christmas presents to Ogun State.”

Abiodun said the hospital was previously riddled with structural, civil, and electrical engineering deficiencies, but the state government has worked to address them.

He noted that Healthshare Services Limited, the operator of the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, has agreed in principle to partner with the Ogun facility once completed.

The governor said the hospital would help reduce medical tourism and provide a more accessible option for patients who typically travel to Lagos, Babcock University Teaching Hospital, or Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

“By the time this hospital is commissioned, all that will stop. Many people travelling from Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and other parts of the hinterland must pass through Ogun State before getting to Lagos. This will be a more convenient option,” he said.

Abiodun added that the state government pursued a public-private partnership to ensure the hospital is efficiently managed. “We identified Healthshare Services Limited and signed an MoU with them last year to complete this facility,” he said.

Project Manager of Healthshare Integrated Solutions, Dr. Frank Etang, assured that the project would be ready for commissioning in December.

He said the basement, ground floor, radiology unit, laboratory, and consulting rooms have been completed, and work is being finalised on the first floor, which houses the theatre, ICU, and wards.

“We are ready for the commissioning,” he said.
