PHED records 60% metering milestone, targets full coverage

EEDC commences free meter rollout under “Tranche B” of MAF
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution PLC (PHED) has declared 60 per cent metering coverage for its customers across Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

The Managing Director of PHED, Mr Ete Pinnick, disclosed this during a customer enlightenment meeting in Port Harcourt, where he emphasised the company’s commitment to improving customer service.

According to Pinnick, the company has been allocated over 18,000 new meters for distribution to customers through the second phase of the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) metering scheme.

He stated that the goal is to meter all customers, and the company is working towards achieving this objective. Pinnick said: “We want everybody to be metered, and we are working towards that, and we should be able to get everybody metered.

“There is a lot of work going on; if it is up to me, we will not have any post-paid.

“Right now we have 85,000 meters we are installing, and we are expecting that at the end of that programme, we should install about 135,000 and MAF phase 2. In phase 1, we had 10,000 meters allocated to our region; this time, we have 16,000.”

He noted that despite the challenges faced by electrical distribution companies in the country, PHED is set to drive a cultural transformation in providing service based on integrity.

“We created this forum to listen to the customers, to get feedback so that we could learn and work together with them to see how better we can serve them.”

ALSO, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has commenced the second phase of its free prepaid meter distribution under “Tranche B” of the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) metering programme.

The initiative, instituted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), aims to close the existing metering gap in the sector and eliminate estimated billing.

The Group Head, Corporate Communications of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, yesterday, said that the metering programme, funded through the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) “Tranche B”, is targeted at unmetered customers on service band “A” feeders across the South-East region.

According to Ezeh, a total of 13,335 EEDC customers, including those of its subsidiary companies, will benefit from this phase of the metering programme, which commenced on November 2, 2025, with the Know Your Customer (KYC) validation exercise.
