Security agencies interrogate officials over missing deputy governor’s vehicle in Kano

Government officials from the office of the Kano State Deputy Governor are currently being interrogated regarding the alleged missing Toyota Hilux, an operational vehicle belonging to the State House convoy.

The Guardian learnt that the vehicle disappeared from the Deputy Governor’s office on Sunday evening, when most workers were off duty for the weekend.

Intelligence reports suggest that a few individuals, including a long-serving civil servant, allegedly drove the vehicle out of the Government House under the cover of darkness.

A reliable source revealed that what seemed to be a coordinated operation was carried out by familiar government staff, avoiding detection by armed security personnel at the Government House.

“The criminal act was committed by officials in the Deputy Governor’s office, even though it occurred on a quiet Sunday evening when there is usually minimal activity at the Government House,” the source stated.

“The fact that the suspect managed to drive the vehicle out without being stopped by security personnel raises questions. This suggests some level of collaboration. A security officer should have intervened. However, this does not indicate a security threat at the seat of power.

“My belief is that the man was not stopped and possibly allowed to take the vehicle since he is a familiar face. However, security should have questioned why he was leaving on a Sunday evening when he was not on official duty. I am confident that intelligence will provide answers,” an internal source disclosed.

Although there has been no official statement from the Deputy Governor’s office regarding the incident, reports circulating on social media suggest that a thief entered into the Government House and stole the Toyota Hilux.

Meanwhile, security has been increased around the Government House, with heavily armed police and DSS operatives conducting thorough checks on visitors and officials.
