Adeleke presents N705b 2026 budget to Assembly

Osogbo royal families urge removal of Oluwo as fourth-ranking Oba in Osun
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, presented the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill to the state’s House of Assembly.

The governor, while presenting the N705.794 billion budget tagged “Budget of Economic Transformation”, stated that the Recurrent Expenditure is N317.41 billion, which is 45 per cent of the total budget, while the Capital Expenditure, which is N388.37 billion, stands at 55 per cent of the budget.

He, however, expressed commitment to building a robust and diversified economy capable of navigating contemporary challenges, noting that by leveraging Osun’s diverse economic potential, “we are creating a dynamic system that adapts, evolves and withstands emerging shocks.”

“This budget is our commitment to fostering sustainable growth, promoting equity, and strengthening resilience through pragmatic and inclusive policies,” the governor added.

According to Adeleke, it has been the determination of his administration from inception to take Osun State to an enviable height through infrastructural and human capital development.

Adeleke, while speaking on the 2025 budget, said his government had delivered over 75 per cent of the road infrastructure embarked upon by his administration, assuring not to leave any project uncompleted.

Earlier in his remark, the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, commended the governor’s prudence in financial management, “especially under the constraints arising from the withholding of local council allocations by the Federal Government since March 2025.”

He said that despite these challenges, Adeleke had consistently met its obligations, maintained developmental projects, and safeguarded workers’ welfare – a testament to visionary and responsible leadership.

He promised that the House would conduct careful legislative scrutiny to ensure that the budget reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people of the state.

IN another development, the royal houses in Osogboland yesterday called on the Osun State Government to urgently reinstate the Ataoja of Osogbo to its rightful fourth position in the ranking of the Osun Council of Obas, saying that the Oluwo of Iwo is historically, traditionally and legally unfit to occupy it.

The royal families of Ataoja of Osogbo, while speaking during a media briefing at Aruru Gbaemu compound in Osogbo, however, expressed worry that the fourth position ranking, which had been historically held by Ataoja, had since been taken over by the Oluwo.

They, therefore, called on the state government to immediately return Ataoja throne to the fourth position.
