The Regional Manager, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric), Zamfara, Mr Mu’azu Aliyu, has sought the support of journalists in sensitising consumers about the company’s activities and the need to cooperate with it to serve them better.
Aliyu made the call when he led his management team on a courtesy visit to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Zamfara Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Gusau, the Zamfara capital.
The Regional Manager said customers of Kaduna Electricity should understand that the company needs customers’ support by settling their bills promptly.
He explained that the company is not just collecting money, but it also has to supply power adequately and regularly.
According to him, prompt settlement of bills will enhance service delivery.
He noted that the company is working hard to guarantee an adequate supply of electricity to its consumers and would continue to work hard to ensure customer satisfaction.
“This company needs customers to keep moving. Without customers, we cannot exist. Even though the company exists, many staff would have lost their jobs,” he added.
He said that the management team was at the chapel’s secretariat to solicit partnership so that journalists could play a role in sensitising the public on the need to settle their bills promptly for improved service delivery.
He said Kaduna Electricity Company is a private entity that cannot survive without consumer cooperation.
Aliyu appealed to the chapel to assist in sensitising consumers to be patient, as most of the challenges being faced, which cause outages in supply, are being addressed.
The company also appealed to members of the public to assist in protecting its critical assets from being vandalised.
Responding, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Zamfara State Council, Ishaq Zaki Tambuwal, commended the team for acknowledging that journalists are the watchdogs of society.
Tambuwal noted that the visit was historic and would foster a lasting relationship between the two bodies.
He said there was a communication gap that existed prior to the visit, noting that Kaduna Electricity had been in the habit of not informing journalists of its activities.
He emphasised the importance of the media in sensitising the public and in playing roles in addressing challenges so that customers get enhanced service delivery.
He assured the company of journalists’ support to deliver efficient power to the Zamfara consumers and other customers.
Kaduna Electric is in charge of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States under its franchise.
