Governor Agbu Kefas‘ ambition to transform Taraba State into a medical tourism destination, as noticed by The Guardian, is beginning to take shape following the arrival of a team of healthcare experts from the United Kingdom in the state.
The delegation, led by Dr. Chichi Menakaya, founder of Annomo Health, said their mission is to collaborate with the Taraba State Government to strengthen healthcare delivery and infrastructure across the state.
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday in Jalingo, Dr. Menakaya commended Governor Kefas’ leadership and commitment to improving healthcare access for residents.
“The passion of Governor Agbu Kefas is driven by his mission to enhance the healthcare of the people. Because of his dedication, the people of Taraba are motivated to pursue better health outcomes since healthcare is the foundation for everything,” she said.
Dr. Menakaya explained that her team will embark on both medium and long-term intervention programmes to upgrade facilities and build the necessary manpower to sustain the governor’s vision.
She noted that during their visits to various hospitals and clinics, her team was impressed by the dedication and professionalism of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers, promising to leave “no stone unturned” in transforming Taraba into a hub for medical tourism.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Health Services Management Board, Dr. Garba Danjuma, expressed optimism about the partnership, describing it as a crucial step toward revamping the health sector.
He noted that several facilities visited by the team required urgent intervention and assured the board that they would work closely with Annomo Health to implement the governor’s healthcare agenda.
In a related development, the state Head of Service, Dr. Hamidu Ahmed Kara, disclosed that the government is developing programmes aimed at producing nurses capable of competing globally.
“We have agreed to operate on a zonal level, and plans are underway to extend support to medical students through the payment of monthly stipends,” Dr. Kara said.
With these collaborations and initiatives, Governor Kefas’ administration, according to health experts who spoke with our state correspondent, appears poised to position Taraba as a regional centre for quality healthcare and medical tourism.
In other news, the stage is now set for Governor Kefas‘ much-anticipated defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following reports that the Taraba State governor will officially join the ruling party on November 19.
A decent source close to the APC National Working Committee confirmed that Yilwatda’s masterstroke was the unseen hand behind the defection, with plans finalised to receive the governor at a rally in Jalingo.
The party’s national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is expected to lead the team that will welcome him into the ruling party, the source confirmed.
Already, Governor Kefas’ defection was the subject of discussion at the APC’s recent leadership meeting held on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
“Everything is already set for the Taraba governor’s arrival into the APC fold,” the insider hinted.
