Tinubu hails Super Eagles’ 4-1 win over Gabon

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4-1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa Playoff match, describing the performance as a vivid display of the Nigerian spirit, resilient, adaptable, and determined to prevail.

The President commended the team for playing with courage, balance, and precision, noting that football has long been one of Nigeria’s most potent symbols of unity and shared national pride.

“This victory adds fresh momentum to our national spirit and strengthens our collective resolve to secure a place at the World Cup,” Tinubu said.

He lauded the players, coaching staff, and entire technical and administrative crew for their dedication, saying their commitment has brought the national team this well-deserved success.

“The result reflects the deep pool of talent that Nigeria continues to produce and the determination of the Super Eagles to reclaim their place among Africa’s most respected teams,” the President added.

Tinubu also praised millions of Nigerians at home and abroad who continue to support the team with passion and loyalty, emphasizing that their energy remains a powerful driving force, particularly at decisive moments in international competitions.

Addressing the squad directly, the President urged the players to build on this victory and stay focused on the remaining qualifiers. “Every match is an opportunity to demonstrate discipline and character, and to prove that Nigeria’s ambition is within reach,” he said.

“This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure qualification. Super Eagles, keep soaring. The nation stands with you!”

The presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, also took to his verified X account to lavish praise on the Super Eagles.

“After a busy day schedule that took me from Lagos to Abuja for the Guild of Editors event, and then onward to Anambra, I still made sure to catch up with the Super Eagles match against Gabon,” Obi wrote.

“My excitement after the match for the sweet victory made me forget my immediate tweet as I always do after every one of their match. I sincerely congratulate our dear Super Eagles on their outstanding and well-deserved victory today.

“Their performance is a reminder that when we invest in talent and support our institutions, Nigeria can compete and win on any global stage.

“Today, the Super Eagles have made us proud, and I celebrate them, the coaching crew, and every Nigerian who continues to believe in the possibility of a better, stronger, and more united Nigeria. Well done, Eagles. Keep soaring.”
