The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the death of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his passing.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a statement on Monday, said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after videos circulated on social media showing the singer’s lifeless body being transported to a mortuary. In one clip, the artiste was seen lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears. The videos prompted widespread speculation about the cause of his death.

Family members have since provided details suggesting the singer had been battling a long-term illness described locally as “Ogu oru,” which reportedly triggered seizures. In a video shared online, Destiny Boy’s mother, Saida, explained that the family had sought both medical and traditional remedies to manage the condition.

She said, “The sickness he battled with was ‘Ogu oru,’ causing him to have seizures. The sickness had almost run him mad. We are the ones who always ensure that he doesn’t run out in the process of calming him.”

She further dismissed rumours that the late musician engaged in ritual practices, warning against the spread of misinformation.

“Those who use his name to trend may die mysteriously, as he did, if they are not careful. We actually hid this sickness from the public because he was a superstar. We went to different herbalists and clerics to heal him of the illness,” she said.

Destiny Boy’s career began at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, a suburb of Lagos State, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji musician, Pasuma. He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If, and later produced renditions of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.

His discography includes tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
The singer’s death follows the birth of his first child with partner Iremide in November 2024.

Fellow musician Ruger confirmed Destiny Boy’s passing on social media, expressing frustration at the lack of official details surrounding his death.

“Bruh people will just post that someone has died and everyone will move on. Wtf caused his death, who was he with, what was the boy eating or drinking. No autopsy, NOTHING!!!! We just have to accept that he’s dead. My God RIP Destiny Boy,” he wrote.
