Nigerian music star Wizkid has responded publicly after days of criticism from Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, turning a fan-based dispute into a direct clash between the two artistes.

Wizkid made the comments on his Instagram story on Tuesday, following repeated remarks by Seun about his fan base, Wizkid FC, and questions over why the singer had remained silent.

In his response, Wizkid dismissed Seun’s comments and fired back with a series of insults.

The response came after Seun, the youngest son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, suggested during an Instagram Live session that Wizkid’s silence showed a lack of concern for his supporters.

If someone attacks people I care about, I will respond immediately,” Seun said during the Live session. He questioned why Wizkid had not reacted despite what he described as sustained criticism of his fans.

Seun has, over several days, openly criticised Wizkid FC, accusing the fan base of toxic behaviour, online harassment and lack of positive direction.

He also condemned comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, rejecting the idea that any modern artiste could be described as a “New Fela.”

According to Seun, Fela’s legacy was built on political activism, resistance and social sacrifice, not popularity or awards. He insisted that such a legacy could not be inherited or recreated through fan arguments.

He also challenged Wizkid’s fans to prove their influence through action rather than insults. During one Live video, Seun suggested that if Wizkid FC truly numbered about one million people, they could each contribute ₦1,000 to raise ₦1 billion and build a public school in Surulere, Lagos, in Wizkid’s name.

Wizkid did not respond to Seun’s arguments, but clearly rejected the criticism.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is one of Nigeria’s most successful new-generation Afrobeat artistes. He has achieved global recognition through international collaborations and major awards, including a Grammy.

Seun Kuti, on the other hand, has built his career around Afrobeat and political activism, leading Egypt 80, the band founded by his father. He is known for outspoken commentary on politics, culture and the music industry.

Despite criticizing wizkid Fc for days, Seun has repeatedly stated that his criticism is not aimed at Wizkid personally, but at a culture that equates popularity with greatness.

Seun only started focusing on Wizkid after pointing out that the singer had stayed silent.

In the Instagram Live, he said Wizkid’s lack of response to the criticism of his fans showed indifference. This seemed to lead to Wizkid finally replying.
