Ekiti: Amotekun arrests 16 cattle rustlers fleeing Kwara

The Amotekun Corps in Ekiti, yesterday, said it apprehended some suspected Fulani herdsmen believed to be cattle rustlers migrating from Kwara to the state.

In a statement by the command’s Director of information, Abiodun Adeleye in Ado Ekiti, the herdsmen were arrested following an intelligence report by some residents of Isan community in Oye council area of the state

According to Adeleye, the suspects were sighted with their cattle around Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, which threw the agrarian community into panic.

The development, according to the statement, led to reinforcement of more Amotekun operatives in Oye where their combined efforts led to the successful arrest of the bandits.

He said: “Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they fled from Kwara State to Ekiti State as a result of ongoing onslaught against banditry in the state.

“They were involved in cattle rustling especially from some Kwara residents who rear their cattle in the town. In the course of interrogation, 16 suspects were apprehended.

“They have since been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command, Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and prosecution.”
