• Shettima visits Gbong Gwom Jos, preaches peaceful coexistence
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has held a formal reception for Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the party, a development that effectively hands over party structures and underscores its growing national strength and unifying appeal across political divides.
Speaking on the occasion, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the moment as a clear demonstration of the party’s enduring philosophy of unity, inclusion, and purposeful governance.
He noted that Mutfwang’s decision represents far more than a political realignment, but a collective movement towards peace, stability, and progress on the Plateau.
Yilwatda revealed that with this development, political structures and key actors from other parties in the state have collapsed into the APC, effectively positioning the party as the dominant and most credible political platform in Plateau.
He emphasised that the APC’s objective is not intimidation or exclusion, but responsible leadership anchored on unity and development.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has said Nigeria possesses the potential to rank among the world’s greatest nations if its citizens embrace tolerance and live peacefully with one another.
He noted that Nigerians are bound by a common heritage, stressing that the forces uniting the country far outweigh those that seek to divide it.
Shettima made the remarks yesterday in Jos, during a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Jacob Gyang Buba.
The Vice President, who was in the state for the grand reception of Governor Mutfwang and other prominent politicians into the APC, described traditional rulers as custodians of peace and stabilising forces in society.
According to him, beyond preserving culture and tradition, monarchs play a critical role in fostering harmony among their people.
He also commended the cordial relationship between Yilwatda and the governor, describing the political realignment as a positive development for the state.
In his remarks, the Gbong Gwom Jos called for enhanced security measures to address challenges confronting Plateau State and other parts of the country.
He stressed that both Islam and Christianity preach peace and reject violence, urging Nigerians to respect one another and live in harmony.
The royal father also welcomed the political realignment, describing it as a positive development for the state and the nation.
