The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has met the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Trainers Plus requirements, earning Gold Member status, marking a significant milestone for aviation training and capacity development in Nigeria.
A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Henry Agbebire, said the certification was a mark of global excellence in aviation training.
Agbebire stated that this achievement, which is valid for 12 months – from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, is a reflection of FAAN’s sustained commitment to excellence, global best practices, and the continuous professional development of aviation personnel.
The statement added that it is also a testament to the Managing Director of FAAN’s dedication to human resource development.
“The ICAO Trainers Plus Programme is a globally recognised framework that ensures aviation training organisations meet stringent international standards for instructor competency, training delivery, and quality assurance.
“By attaining Gold Member status, FAAN has demonstrated full compliance with ICAO’s rigorous benchmarks, positioning the authority as a leading aviation training institution not only in Nigeria, but across Africa,” he said.
Meanwhile, FAAN has also attained the ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) certifications.
The certificates were presented to Kuku at the agency’s headquarters in Lagos earlier in the week, marking the culmination of months of dedicated effort, rigorous internal auditing, and organisational improvements.
ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard that shows an organisation has strong systems in place to consistently deliver quality services, meet customer expectations, and continuously improve how it operates.
Also, ISO 14001:2015 confirms that the organisation manages its activities in an environmentally responsible way by reducing waste and pollution, complying with environmental laws, and promoting sustainable operations.
The statement added: “Granted by MSECB, Canada, the dual certifications confirm that FAAN’s operational and environmental management systems now meet globally recognised standards, placing Nigeria’s airport authority firmly among modern, competitive, and forward-looking airport organisations worldwide.
“The certifications represent a significant milestone for the authority under the leadership of Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.”
