High Definition Film Academy celebrates 15 years’ anniversary with awards, others

One of Nigeria’s leading acting and filmmaking institution, High Definition Film Academy (HDFA), has officially announced a year-long celebration to mark its 15th anniversary.

Speaking in Abuja, the management disclosed plans to unveil bold initiatives designed to empower creatives, strengthen industry pipelines and reposition Africa’s film education ecosystem.

Founded in 2011, HDFA has trained thousands of actors, filmmakers and content creators, who work across film, television, digital media and faith-based productions in Nigeria and beyond.

“As it celebrates 15 years of impact, HDFA is rolling out a transformative slate of programmes that combine education, opportunity and industry access, including 15 tuition scholarships award,” announced the Chief Executive Offiver, HDFA, Mr Bright Wonder Obasi.

He noted that to commemorate its 15-year milestone, HDFA would be awarding 15 tuition scholarships to talented and deserving creatives, an initiative that expands access to professional film education and reinforces HDFA’s long-standing commitment to discovering and nurturing emerging voices.

At the heart of HDFA 15th anniversary, the organisers said, is the launch of the N100 million HDFA Alumni Production Fund, created to support alumni-led film productions.

“The fund is designed to stimulate job creation, foster collaboration among HDFA graduates and enable high-quality, commercially viable content produced from within the HDFA ecosystem.”

The academy is also relaunching its acclaimed Students Limited Series, a professional, industry-facing production platform where students learn by practising on real film sets.
“The series provides hands-on experience, strong portfolio credits, mentorship from industry professionals, and a direct launch pad into the Nigerian and African film industries”, Obasi said.
The anniversary celebrations will culminate in a grand finale event later in the year with the awards presentation, alumni recognition, screenings, exhibition, masterclasses and strategic networking sessions.
Meanwhile, alumni, industry leaders, partners and stakeholders would be celebrated for their role in HDFA’s journey and its future.

“Through its hands-on training model, production-driven curriculum and strong alumni outcomes, HDFA has earned its reputation as Nigeria’s number one acting and filmmaking school as one of Africa’s leading film academies.

“The HDFA at 15 initiatives signal a new phase of growth, one that blends education with production financing, talent representation, and industry access.

“These initiatives are not just about celebration,” said HDFA Management. They are about building systems that work, systems that train talent, finance creativity, create jobs and open real pathways into the film and television industry.”

Obasi added that HDFA at 15 celebrations is positioned to attract government agencies, international organizations, investors, production partners and educational collaborators seeking credible platforms for youth empowerment, creative industry development and cultural export.

He therefore called on prospective students, partners and investors to key into the programmes that will usher the next chapter of the academy.
