Six persons have died in a lone auto crash that occurred near the Four Square Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State.
Twenty-three other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident that occurred on Tuesday morning.
The crash involved a White/Blue DAF truck with the registration number: SNA 287 XA.
Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Command (FRSC), Ogun Command, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta.
Odunsi said that 29 passengers were involved in the crash that resulted in the death of six persons and 23 other persons sustaining injuries.
He said that the truck, reportedly coming from the northern part of the country to Lagos State, was also laden with 35 cows. He said 29 of the cows died in the crash, while six of them were rescued unhurt.
The Superintendent Route Commander said the cause of the crash was fatigue and a speed violation by the driver, who lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby bush.
He explained that the FRSC officials were on the ground managing the casualties, while the injured and dead bodies had been taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.
Odunsi noted that the crash affected traffic while investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause of the accident.
The command urged motorists and commercial drivers, especially heavy-duty truck drivers, to regularly service and inspect their vehicles, maintain safe speeds to keep control, and observe road safety regulations, such as proper rest and fatigue avoidance.
