Nigerian Police Force (NPF)

OPERATIVES of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a murder suspect and recovered a locally fabricated firearm.

The command said the arrest was made at the Budo Panu area of Tede following a reported murder incident, after officers acted on credible intelligence and apprehended Yaru Saka (male, adult) in connection with the death of Amodu Saliu (male). A locally made single-barrel gun was recovered at the scene.
Police said the suspect confessed to the crime and is cooperating with investigators by providing information to aid a thorough probe.
“At the request of the deceased’s family, the corpse was released for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. This success demonstrates the command’s capacity to swiftly identify, apprehend and process violent offenders, preventing further escalation of crime in the community,” the police said.

Building on its intelligence-led approach, the command also disclosed that it quelled a cult-related disturbance at Jobele area, where operatives responded to reports of a violent fracas and rescued Abraham Atunde (male), aged 35, who sustained stab injuries.
A bloodstained knife linked to the attack was recovered at the scene.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Sammod Bologun, aged 29, and Katie Suleiman, aged 24.

Police said both suspects confessed to their involvement in the cult-related violence and are providing actionable intelligence to assist efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
In a related development, the command said it responded swiftly to a grievous harm incident at Elekara area, Ilora, where Adeniran Ramon, aged 50, reported that while on duty as a night guard in the early hours of February 1, 2026, he was attacked by an assailant armed with a cutlass, resulting in the severance of his left hand from the wrist.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said operatives promptly arrested Isiaka Muhammed, aged 23, in possession of a bloodstained cutlass.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime.
“Complementing its violent crime interventions, the command achieved a significant success against organised property crime at the Salami/Ibachi axis of Ibadan.

Acting on timely intelligence and community reports, operatives intercepted three suspects inside a Toyota Liteace bus with Oyo State commercial colour, registration MNY 759 YN, which was loaded with suspected stolen electronic and household items,” the police said.
The suspects were identified as Rukayat Favour Umar, aged 17; Mubarak Umar, aged 26, both from the Eleyele area of Ibadan; and Jimoh Ibrahim, aged 49, from the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.

Police said investigations showed the suspects had been engaged in burglary activities in the area for some time and were already on the command’s intelligence radar before their arrest. They also confessed to prior burglaries in the metropolis.

The command added that CCTV reviews of earlier cases confirmed their involvement, noting that the suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation.
Police said all suspects arrested in connection with the incidents would be charged in court after investigations are completed.
