The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has condemned the recent wave of violent attacks in Kwara, Katsina and Benue states, describing the killings as senseless, barbaric and completely unacceptable.

In a statement, Kalu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and the destruction of property caused by the attacks, while extending his condolences to the families of the victims and the affected communities.
The attacks, which occurred in different locations across the three states, have intensified concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, particularly in rural areas that continue to face repeated assaults by armed groups.

In recent months, parts of Benue State have experienced deadly violence linked to communal and farmer-herder clashes, while Katsina has remained a hotspot for banditry and kidnappings.
Kwara State has also recorded rising security challenges, especially in its border communities.

Kalu urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and operational responses to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further bloodshed.
He stressed that holding those responsible accountable was critical to restoring public confidence and deterring future attacks.

“The continued loss of innocent lives is deeply troubling and unacceptable. Those behind these heinous acts must be identified, arrested and made to face the full weight of the law,” the Deputy Speaker said.
He reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly remain committed to supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies through adequate funding, legislation and oversight aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

Kalu also emphasised the importance of community participation in addressing insecurity, urging traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help prevent attacks.
According to him, tackling insecurity requires a collective effort involving government institutions, security agencies and local communities working together to safeguard lives and property.

The Deputy Speaker prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and called on Nigerians to remain vigilant, united and law-abiding amid ongoing security challenges.
He assured affected communities that the House of Representatives would continue to support policies and initiatives aimed at restoring peace, stability and safety across the country.
