Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has come under fire for allegedly prioritizing overseas trips and social engagements over governance.
In a statement issued on 12 February 2026, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, accused the governor of neglecting his responsibilities and focusing on personal travel.
Akinola claimed that Governor Adeleke spent over 180 days outside Osun State in 2025, with trips that were not aimed at attracting investments or partnerships beneficial to the state.
“Governor Adeleke has essentially become a tourist in his own state. He embarked on at least six personal visits to the United States in 2025 alone, mostly to party. He was also in the Caribbean to party. This is not governance; this is a betrayal of public trust,” Akinola said.
He further alleged that more than ₦3 billion was spent in the first half of 2025 on travel, private jets, and related expenses, describing the spending as wasteful and disconnected from the welfare of residents.
According to Akinola, even when in Nigeria, the governor rarely spends a full week in Osogbo, raising concerns about continuity in governance and coordination of state affairs.
“Despite the historic surge in federal allocations over the past three years, there is little to show in terms of infrastructure or social services,” he added.
He noted that many public schools remain understaffed, particularly in science subjects, while healthcare services in both rural and urban areas have deteriorated.
Akinola described the administration as indifferent to the plight of residents, stating: “The disconnect between the Governor’s ‘dancing’ persona and the dire economic straits of the state has reached a breaking point.”
He urged Osun residents to remain resolute ahead of 8 August, calling it “the day of deliverance” and said: “The people will speak with one voice. They will reject this irresponsible way of life and reclaim their state from a leadership that prefers Caribbean sands to the soil of Osun.”
Attempts to obtain a response from the Osun State Government were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
