Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that failure by Northerners to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term would amount to a disservice to the region.
Yilwatda stated that the Tinubu administration has favoured the North more than any other part of the country in terms of infrastructural projects and capacity building, urging Northerners to reciprocate by supporting the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
He spoke in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, during a solidarity rally organised to express appreciation to President Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule for what organisers described as their good governance.
According to the APC chairman, President Tinubu deserves another term based on the numerous people-oriented reforms and projects being executed across the country, particularly in the North.
“Mr. President has shown that Nigeria can be one. He has shown that Nigeria can be inclusive and that government can be resolute. That is why we are here,” Yilwatda said.
He cited major projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry highway, which he said would include over 60 dams to support irrigation, agriculture, electricity generation and clean water supply across the North.
Yilwatda also referenced the ongoing Abuja–Kano rail project, with extension to the Niger Republic, noting that it would position the North as a major import and export hub for neighbouring countries such as Sudan, Burkina Faso and Chad.
“All these projects are being done by Mr. President. That is why it will be a disservice to the North if we do not support him. Supporting Mr. President is a must for the North because of what he has done, what he is doing and what he will yet do for the region,” he said.
While receiving thousands of decampees from other political parties into the APC, Yilwatda commended Governor Sule for what he described as effective governance in Nasarawa State, applauding infrastructural projects across the state’s 13 local government areas, including flyovers, roads, schools, hospitals and the airport.
Earlier, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, who also serves as National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda, urged Renewed Hope Ambassadors to take President Tinubu’s achievements to the grassroots.
Uzodinma stressed that the rally was not a campaign event but an opportunity to educate citizens on the benefits of the President’s policies, including the reduction in food prices, improved foreign reserves and a more stable exchange rate.
He also praised President Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency on insecurity, charging the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to evangelise the message that a new Nigeria is achievable under the President’s leadership.
