Yusuf drops Galadima as Kano Poly Council Chair

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has removed Engineer Buba Galadima, a close ally of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic.

The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, who said the removal followed a restructuring exercise in line with the state government’s Kano First Agenda reforms.

According to the statement, although the Governing Council’s tenure is three years, Galadima’s appointment was terminated before expiration as part of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing optimal academic and administrative performance at the institution.

Governor Yusuf has consequently approved the appointment of the Emir of Gaya, Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as the new Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic.

The governor expressed appreciation to Galadima for his services to the institution during his tenure and urged the new chairman to deploy his wealth of experience, leadership and commitment toward repositioning the polytechnic for greater efficiency and excellence.

Galadima, a prominent figure within the Kwankwasiyya political movement and a member of a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has been openly critical of Governor Yusuf following the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He recently accused the Kano State Government of plotting to restrict the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate from entering the state—an allegation the government has since denied.

Galadima has also described Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC as a move driven by personal political survival, warning that it could deepen political divisions in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NNPP faction’s Board of Trustees secretary further claimed that the governor’s alignment with former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje, a long-time rival of Kwankwaso, amounted to a betrayal of the political movement that brought him to power.
