The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP), under the chairmanship of Nenadi Usman and the national secretary, Darlington Nwokocha, on Monday, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Julius Abure and others over the alleged criminal invasion of the party’s national secretariat.
The party reiterated its commitment to peace and reconciliation through its National Peace and Reconciliation Committee.
Deputy National Chairman of the party, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, said the leadership was reaffirming its commitment to constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and respect for judicial pronouncements in Nigeria.
Ndubuaku said that Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy governed by laws and not by impunity, stressing that the supremacy of the Constitution and the finality of court decisions must be upheld.
He referenced the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered on April 4, 2025, in Suit No. SC/CV/56/2025, which he said affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary of the Labour Party.
Ndubuaku said: “As a party, we have formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police demanding immediate investigation, arrest and prosecution of Mr. Julius Abure and others for criminal trespass, armed robbery, theft, assault, malicious damage, impersonation, contempt of court, conspiracy, and threats to national security and peace.
“We further call on the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to activate and implement without delay the Criminal Prosecution Order dated 7th March 2025 concerning Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim and others for their indictments for perjury, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against the named individuals.
“Nigeria’s security agencies are constitutionally empowered to enforce the law. We therefore commend the Nigeria Police Force and other security services for their professional and neutral intervention that prevented further escalation of the activities of the invaders and preserved public order.”
He noted that INEC has complied with the subsisting judgments and formally recognized the Usman-led leadership as the authentic authority of the party.
He said that, based on the court rulings, Julius Abure and his associates have no legal standing within the party’s structure, adding that only the Nenadi Usman-led National Working Committee has the authority to administer and occupy the party’s national secretariat at No. 2 IBM Haruna Street, Utako, Abuja.
He also noted that the party had formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, demanding investigation, arrest, and prosecution of the named individuals for criminal trespass, assault, theft, malicious damage, impersonation, contempt of court, conspiracy, and threats to national security.
He called on the Attorney General of the Federation to activate a criminal prosecution order dated March 7, 2025, concerning alleged indictments for perjury, forgery, and conspiracy.
He also announced that it had notified INEC, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, of its planned congresses and national convention scheduled between March and April 2026, adding that its membership registration and revalidation exercise was ongoing nationwide in both manual and electronic formats.
Ndubuaku added, “Our Membership Registration, Revalidation, and New Registration exercise is also ongoing in hybrid format: manual registration across rural communities and electronic registration in semiurban and urban centers. We invite all Nigerians aged 18 and above to join the Labour Party and rise with us to build the Nigeria of our dreams.
“We reiterate our demand that the named individuals and their accomplices be promptly investigated, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law; that all stolen assets be recovered; that full compensation be paid for damages; that any compromised security personnel be investigated; and that enhanced protection be provided to the National Secretariat.”
