Big Brother Naija former housemate, Neo Akpofure, has asked for a public retraction and apology after an X user accused him of rape.
In a letter dated Wednesday, February 18, lawyers representing Neo said the claim was untrue and damaging.
The law firm, E.L. Akpofure, SAN & Co., addressed the letter to an X account identified as Arikan Udoka.
Neo later posted the letter on his X page.
The allegation, shared on Tuesday, claimed Neo raped Ms Udoka when they were students of the University of Calabar.
It also described their relationship as being “casual sex buddies”, but alleged that the incident was not consensual.
In the notice, his lawyers called the accusation “entirely false, malicious and defamatory.”
They added that it “falsely portrays our client as a sexual offender and a criminal, thereby subjecting him to public odium, reputational injury and emotional distress.”

The legal team demanded that the user delete the post and any related content.
They also asked for a public retraction and an apology, stating that the claims were untrue.
The lawyers further requested a written undertaking that no similar statements would be published again.
The letter warned that if the demands were not met within 48 hours, Neo would take legal action through a civil defamation suit under Nigerian law.
As of the time of filing this report, the X user had not issued any public response.
Neo became popular after appearing on the 2020 edition of Big Brother Naija.
He has since built a career as a brand influencer and entrepreneur.
