FHQ edges Lagos as 2026 Police Games end in Asaba

2026 Police Games

The 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) ended in Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend, with the Federal Headquarters (FHQ) narrowly clinching the overall title.

This highlighted both the competitive depth of the tournament and growing pressure on state commands to improve sports development within the force.

FHQ topped the table with 238 medals, finishing just two medals ahead of Lagos Command on 236, while Yenagoa Command placed third with 140 medals, as the week-long competition wrapped up.

The Games, staged at the Stephen Keshi Stadium and other venues, featured athletics, shooting, swimming, table tennis, boxing and multiple indoor and outdoor events under the theme, “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action.”

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, described the Games as proof of the discipline and dedication of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the week of competition showed officers were not only security personnel but also athletes capable of representing the nation in sports.

“What we have witnessed goes far beyond sports, a demonstration of discipline, dignity and dedication,” the governor said, praising Delta for providing the hosting platform.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun applauded Delta State’s organisation and hospitality, stating that Asaba had become “a theatre of excellence where discipline met determination and preparation met opportunity.”

Similarly, Force Sports Planning Committee Chairman, AIG Fom Pam Joseph, said the state government’s cooperation helped in delivering what he called a memorable edition.
