New executives and ad hoc delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been elected across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas following the party’s weekend congress.
Confirming the outcome in Akure, the Secretary of the Congress Committee, Smart Iheazor, described the exercise as free, transparent, and peaceful. “We went round the local governments to monitor and observe the election, and it went very smoothly. There was no incident of violence, and we are happy for Ondo State,” he said.
Iheazor noted that the congress was a critical step in strengthening the party’s grassroots structure, with committee members deployed to oversee the elections across all local councils.
He added that the delegates elected in last Wednesday’s election also participated in choosing the new local government executives.
The process also produced ad hoc national delegates who will represent Ondo at the APC national convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, in Abuja, where national officers will be elected. Each local government saw contests for 27 positions, and the newly elected officials will now oversee party activities across the state.
Party leaders on the ground praised the turnout and adherence to party guidelines. Gbenga Fasua, Chairman of Akure South Local Government, said the smooth conduct of the exercise rules out any potential litigation or petitions.
“The re-registration we began weeks ago has been widely successful, and today’s congress reflects that success. The turnout is huge, and from my end, the exercise is highly successful,” he said.
