Tolu Ogunleye, professionally known as Drtonez, has been formally recognised with two leadership honours at the 2026 edition of the CREP Creative Bootcamp held in Lagos.

At the official award presentation ceremony on February 16, Drtonez was conferred with the Artistic Direction & Cultural Leadership Impact Award as well as the Creative Economy Impact Award. The dual recognition followed what organisers described as a structured peer review process and independent jury evaluation, underscoring a merit-based selection framework.

According to the organisers, the awards acknowledge sustained artistic excellence, measurable sectoral influence and leadership that advances both artistic practice and the broader creative economy in Nigeria.

Over the past decade, Drtonez has artistically directed more than 50 music projects and live cultural productions within and beyond Nigeria. His portfolio spans composition, artistic direction, programme curation, live event conceptualisation and artist development.

Industry observers note that his work reflects an integration of musical craftsmanship and cultural strategy. Beyond producing sound, he has been involved in structuring creative processes, mentoring emerging practitioners and contributing to institutional growth within Nigeria’s music ecosystem.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rotimi Emmanuel, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CREP, described Ogunleye as representative of “a generation of artistic and cultural leaders combining creative excellence with measurable sector impact.” He added that Drtonez’s contributions have strengthened artistic development while reinforcing Nigeria’s cultural identity in a competitive global environment.

The CREP Creative Bootcamp 2026 convened artists, producers and industry stakeholders through panel sessions, collaborative composition labs, workshops and incubation programmes. The event’s thematic focus centred on raising professional standards, deepening artistic capacity and driving sustainable growth within the creative industries.

Nigeria’s creative economy has become an increasingly significant contributor to national GDP and global cultural exports, particularly in music and film. Recognition platforms such as CREP are positioning themselves as institutional anchors within that expansion, spotlighting practitioners whose influence extends beyond commercial success to structural development.

For Drtonez, the dual awards represent more than personal achievement. They formalise his role in shaping creative direction, strengthening mentorship pipelines and contributing to the evolving architecture of Nigeria’s cultural sector.

As conversations around intellectual property, global distribution and sustainable creative ecosystems continue to intensify, leadership within the sector is increasingly measured not only by artistic output but also by capacity-building and industry stewardship.

The recognition of Drtonez at CREP Creative Bootcamp 2026 signals a continued emphasis on structured artistic leadership as Nigeria consolidates its position within the global creative economy.
