Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has fulfilled his commitment to the Muslim community in Donga local government council of the state with the release of N300 million for the construction of new mosques for three Islamic sects in the area.

The intervention, as noted by our state correspondent, follows recent disputes over the ownership and control of the Donga Central Mosque, a development that heightened tensions and raised security concerns within the community.

The disagreement, as further observed by The Guardian, involved members of Izala Jos, Izala Kaduna, Darika, and the Muslim Council in Donga, drawing widespread concern from residents and security agencies.

At the peak of the crisis, Governor Kefas visited Donga and assured stakeholders of his administration’s resolve to take proactive measures to restore peace and strengthen unity among the Muslim faithful.

As part of efforts to resolve the impasse, he pledged to facilitate the construction of separate mosques for the affected sects to promote harmony and prevent further conflict.

Delivering on that promise, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Dame, as announced on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Information and Reorientation, Barrister Zianab Jalingo,
presented cheques totalling N300 million to representatives of the three sects.

Each group, as announced by her, received N100 million to commence the construction of their respective mosques.

She reiterated Governor Kefas administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and equitable development across communities in the state.

She also described the governor’s swift action as a demonstration of responsive leadership and commitment to safeguarding unity in the state.

Community leaders in Donga who spoke with The Guardian expressed appreciation to Governor Kefas for honouring his pledge, describing the gesture as timely and commendable.

They noted that the initiative would significantly ease tensions, foster understanding, and prevent future misunderstandings among members of the Muslim community.

Observers say the move marks a crucial step toward lasting peace and stability in Donga, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to inclusive governance and conflict resolution.
