Anambra State has continued to win one award after another, with the latest being the Top Fan Vote category at the prestigious Google Maps Platform Awards, an internationally acclaimed honour, for its bold digitisation of property tax systems. Selected from over 4,000 global entries, the project stood out for its sustainable impact, creativity, and public support.

The victory further strengthens Anambra’s growing reputation in digital governance, positioning it alongside leading reform-driven states in Nigeria’s evolving revenue and ICT landscape.

It is understood that the award recognises the deployment by the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) of Google Maps and Earth Engine technologies to enhance property enumeration, mapping accuracy, and transparency in internally generated revenue (IGR).

By the award, Anambra State is recognised on the global innovation map for leveraging geospatial technology to transform revenue administration.

The initiative, known as the APLUC mapping project, has identified approximately 1.5 million properties statewide, with over 553,000 already digitally clustered for taxation.

Receiving the award from Silicon Valley, the Executive Chairman of AiRS, Greg Ezeilo, described the honour as validation of deliberate, technology-driven reforms.

Ezeilo, an FCA, FCTI, observed that once harmonisation is complete, the state will unlock stronger, more dependable revenue streams.

Under the “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” programme, the State focuses on digitising land administration and its key components. The State’s current recognition in the area of Digital Land Administration has led to the implementation of the Anambra State Geographic Information System (ANAMGIS) to update land records and improve property administration.

In addition to recent accolades for digital infrastructure and property-related technology, Anambra State has upped the ante in digital transformation and technological initiatives, receiving recognition for digital mapping and ICT development.

In particular, the State ICT Agency, led by Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, has been recognised for leveraging technology to improve governance and revenue generation. In December 2025, the State won four major awards at the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) meeting, including:

Best overall-performing State in ICT Development and Best State in ICT Human Capital Development. Under the Broadband Infrastructure Excellence category, the State won the Broadband Infrastructure Excellence Award in 2025 from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, demonstrating its progress in connectivity.

An investigation revealed that in 2018, Anambra students from Regina Pacis Secondary School, Onitsha, won a gold medal at the World Technovation Challenge in Silicon Valley, beating competitors from over 60 countries.
