Amadeus University (AUA), just two years old and located in the rural Amizi community of Abia State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer three new programs: Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, and Law. Meanwhile, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has approved the university’s Nursing Science program.
Over the weekend, AUA formally admitted and matriculated its second batch of students, as approved by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Addressing the 81 matriculating students—61 females and 20 males—Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Nzotta urged them to uphold good character, discipline, determination, and dedication, emphasizing that these virtues are essential for academic excellence.
“Most importantly, you must strive to achieve remarkable success during your time at Amadeus University,” he said.
The VC noted that the NUC’s approval for the three new programs takes effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, following a thorough assessment of the university’s human and material resources. The first set of students in Medicine and Surgery has already been admitted, bringing the total number of academic programs at AUA to 22 across seven faculties.
Regarding Nursing Science, Professor Nzotta stated that the NMCN conducted an advisory visit in October 2025, which resulted in a favorable assessment, paving the way for a first-class Nursing Science program.
Highlighting institutional partnerships, the VC shared that AUA has recently signed Memoranda of Understanding with several domestic and international institutions, including:
On infrastructure, the VC reported that a 106-bed female hostel has been completed, with a second under construction. The Faculty of Law Building Complex is near completion, and the Central Law Library has been upgraded. University laboratories, including those for Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Sciences, now feature modern equipment meeting international standards.
Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, praised God for the university’s growth since its inception, welcomed suggestions for further development, and expressed openness to advice for rapid advancement.
Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Professor Roseline Ndimele, encouraged the matriculated students to dream big, focus on their studies, and strive to become innovators, leaders, and problem solvers, emphasising that the world now requires thinkers rather than just graduates.
