Says Ekiti interest supersedes personal ambition
Former member of the House of Representatives and Federal Commissioner representing Ekiti State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mrs. Omowumi Ogunlola, has denied speculations that she intends to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
Ogunlola, however, said that while her future political ambitions remain open, she will continue to serve Ekiti State in every capacity possible, stressing the need to prioritise the collective interest of the people above personal ambition.
Speaking with journalists on Friday in Ado Ekiti while debunking the rumours, she assured her supporters and political associates that the empowerment programmes and initiatives they have come to rely on would continue uninterrupted.
“Our commitment to the development and well-being of our people remains unwavering,” she said.
Addressing the speculation, Ogunlola stated:
“I have come today to personally address recent discussions and speculations concerning my political ambition and the 2027 elections.
“First, let me express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Governor of Ekiti State, for his continuous support, guidance and encouragement. His partnership has been invaluable to me personally and to our shared vision for the progress of Ekiti State.
“I have formally briefed him on my position regarding these matters, and I deeply appreciate his understanding and wise counsel. Let me be very clear: I will not be contesting for the House of Representatives in 2027.”
Explaining further why she decided not to run for elective office, Ogunlola said that her current role as Federal Commissioner at the RMAFC requires her full attention at a critical time.
“As a serving Federal Commissioner representing Ekiti State at the RMAFC, I am currently entrusted with a critical national responsibility at a very strategic time.
“The commission plays a key role in revenue allocation and fiscal matters that directly impact states, including Ekiti. With important exercises and engagements ahead, it is imperative that Ekiti maintains strong, stable and effective representation at that level.
“By constitutional and ethical provisions, anyone seeking to contest an elective office must resign from such a position. That is not a decision to be taken lightly.
“Resignation at this time could have implications for Ekiti State’s interests, and I firmly believe that Ekiti is bigger than any individual ambition.
“Leadership requires wisdom, proper timing and the courage to place collective interest above personal aspiration. Every decision I make is guided by what best serves Ekiti State and its people,” she said.
