The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has described as “fake” a report that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is close to agreeing a contract with top Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca.
An online platform, Score Nigeria, quoted a leading Moroccan television, Le7TV, yesterday, as saying that Chelle will replace Amine Benhachem despite Wydad Casablanca’s victory at the weekend over UTS.
Wydad Casablanca are second in the league with 29 points from 12 matches, a point behind leaders and city rivals, Raja Casablanca.
The report further claimed that Chelle is excited to lead a top club like WAC. This comes as observers have raised questions over Chelle’s loyalty to the Super Eagles as he still has a year left on his contract with the NFF.
“Is he not disrespecting Nigeria by discussing with other teams while he still has a running contract with Nigeria?” Score Nigeria quoted one observer to have asked rhetorically.
However, Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, quickly dismissed the news yesterday, saying “It is fake.’
Efoghe, who reacted through the official Super Eagles news platform yesterday, enjoined Nigerians to disregard the news.
