Borno State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a resident by suspected Boko Haram terrorists and rustling of about 1,400 sheep in Konduga Local Council.
The massive rustling of sheep from the attacked village followed the gruesome murder of a resident in the early hours of Wednesday in Konduga.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, condemned the attack on the community members and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
Abdulmajid assured the community of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Nahum Daso, disclosed this yesterday via a statement in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The ASP revealed that the murder of a resident and rustling of sheep occurred in Wuturo community, a nomadic settlement near Konduga town, along the 75km Maiduguri-Bama road.
Daso stated, “We condemn the recent attack on a nomadic settlement at Wuturo, Konduga Local Council, by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.”
Regarding the gruesome attacks and murder, he explained: “Following a report received by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Konduga at the Konduga Police Divisional Headquarters on March 10, 2026, about 10.30pm, unknown gunmen riding on five motorcycles invaded the settlement and rustled 1,400 sheep.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that during the attack, Ahmadu Baida, 40, sustained fatal gunshot wounds, while Mohammadu Baida, 30, sustained a gunshot wound in his left leg.”
According to him, upon receipt of the report, a combined team of the police, military, and other security stakeholders, including the Civilian JTF and local hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Konduga, swiftly mobilised to the attacked community.
“The victims were evacuated to the hospital, where Ahmadu Baida was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor, while the injured victim is responding to treatment.”
He noted that the command had activated coordinated operational strategies with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to “track and apprehend” the perpetrators, prevent further attacks, and recover the rustled herd.
The ASP added that tactical and intelligence assets had also been strategically deployed across the affected areas and adjoining communities to strengthen security presence.
